The Board of the Optimist Club of Anguilla has embarked on an AIDS awareness campaign. To this end an AIDS Awareness Committee has been formed.
A number AIDS Awareness activities are planned for this year:
The theme for these AIDS awareness activities is:
RAISE AWARENESS, MAKE A DIFFERENCE
“Anguilla’s Race Against AIDS” is held on the eve of World AIDS Day. The Optimists are hoping to attract some well-known regional and international runners.
The half marathon (starting at 6:30 am) will award a cash prize of $1,000 US each for the first male and female to finish the race, as well as valuable prizes and medals for those placing. A 10K race and 5K Walk/Run will offer prizes and medals to top finishers in different age groups. Discounted rooms, meals, and car rentals will be available too.
The races are endorsed by the Anguillan Government and the Anguillian Amateur Athletic Federation. The race routes will be measured in accordance with the International Amateur Athletic Federation guidelines
These races will offer the opportunity for all levels of runners/walkers of different ages to be involved in this charity event. By getting all sectors of the community involved, the Optimists hope to heighten AIDS awareness and reduce the stigma that keeps this epidemic underground.
Start training now and help us make this third “Race Against AIDS” a success!
